WORK WITH ENDOCRINOLOGY

2005-2006: Upon relocating to L.A. , began working for The Metabolic Health Center, under the direction of Norman Lavin, M.D., an Endocrinologist/UCLA Medical Professor. I provided counseling for his adult and pediatric patients with diabetes, metabolic syndrome, hypertension, heart disease, depression, and anxiety as well as those suffering from symptoms of mid-life crises.

I would see anywhere from 3-13 patients per day. We used bio-impedance technology to measure basal metabolic rate, % body fat, lean mass, level of hydration, etc. Progress was also measured by a drop in Hb A1C or an improvement of one’s fasting blood sugars and lipid profiles. I designed a patient hand-out, entitled:
“Helene’s Golden Rules for a Metabolic Makeover.”

WORK WITH CARDIOLOGY

1990-92: Cardiac Dietitian/Nutrition Consultant for Dale Adler, M.D.,
Co-Chief,
Mount Sinai Hospital Heart Institute.

I began my career as a cardiac dietitian, counseling cardiac patients at the Mount Sinai Hospital Department of Cardiology. I then combined my R.D. expertise with the exercise physiology internship and took blood pressures as patients exercised at the rehab center, provided workshops and therapeutic grocery tours. In addition, I created a series of patient support workshops and video-taped them.

1993-95: Served as Staff Nutritionist/Exercise Physiologist for the American Heart Association, Northeast Ohio Affiliate. I managed committees, walking clubs, nutrition seminars and cardiac symposiums for health professionals.
