Roxy gets a life!

I first met Roxy, a 2.5 year old German Shepard, on October 13, 2007. I gave her owner a deposit to rent a space, but never moved in. He had problems making the space livable for me. As I waited month after month for Roxy's owner to finish the rental unit, my thoughts wandered to this lady each and every night. For 2.5 years, Roxy was restrained within a 5 foot by 10 foot fenced area. She had nowhere to walk or run because her doo-doo was everywhere. Nobody bothered to clean it up. Roxy had no choice but to step in her own excrement. While her owners ignored her, she could hear the small dogs indoors being pampered with plenty of TLC.

The California Winter of 2007-2008 remedied the drought of these past few years.  Nights were freezing cold and the rain, relentless. Roxy lived outside, in an empty wooden dog house 1/2 her size. She suffered alone, in the cold, without fresh water or decent food. Month after month, every Winter night, the thought of Roxy haunted me. I envisioned her sitting by herself, in the mud, freezing all night long... with no blankets or straw to keep her warm.

Long story short, her owners finally realized my love for Roxy, and released her into my custody so I could find her a loving home. These shots were emailed to me (February 24, 2008) by Roxy's new dad. For the first time in her life, she sleeps indoors, and hangs out at her owner's feet as he works out of his home. Roxy is finally getting the love and attention she so richly deserves.

These shots are much older...
As you can see, my hair is lighter these days.
