Therapeutic (Rx)
Cuisine
Let's define the concept of "cream
of the crop, therapeutic cuisine".
As you eat to nourish on a cellular level, you
become leaner, healthier and energized. I CALL IT A
METABOLIC MAKEOVER! When you are munching on healing cuisine,
be sure it contains dramatically less dehydrated cane juice or carbohydrates per
serving; especially if you suffer from diabetes, metabolic syndrome,
cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, hormonal imbalances, eating disorders, or
inflammation.
-
It is possible to reduce blood
pressures, blood sugars and blood fats (a.k.a. "triglycerides")
-
You can balance hormones, naturally, with phyto
estrogens and plant fibers.
-
You can manage inflammation and moods with omega 3's and greens.
Food truly is
medicinal. So, relax, and quiet your mind. Let your body talk to you.
It knows
exactly what it needs.
REMEMBER
this:
conscious cuisine is not necessarily
therapeutic.
But, therapeutic
cuisine is always
conscious.
Like
conscious
cuisine, therapeutic cuisine NEVER includes
synthetic colors, hormones, antibiotics, MSG or preservatives.
Conscious cuisine and therapeutic (Rx) cuisine ALWAYS avoids synthetic sweeteners, corn syrup,
high-fructose corn syrup, bleached sugars, enriched flours, and trans fats
...like hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils.
Here's the general difference between
conscious and therapeutic cuisine. Rx cuisine goes the
extra mile to assist in healing body, mind and spirit.
It may be super nutrient-dense ...or protein-rich to build lean mass ...or may
simply be a therapeutic oil to help manage inflammation.
Here's how Therapeutic Cuisine truly differs
from Conscious Cuisine: each ingredient is uniquely therapeutic in its
own right. Some therapeutic foods may help manage blood sugars like dark
chocolate or cinnamon. Or the therapeutic cuisine may be inherently low glycemic, to manage the
speed at which sugars enter the bloodstream, as it is with steel cut oats or el
dente organic pasta.
The therapeutic food, beverage,
tonic, spice or herb may assist in healing by nourishing cells,
ridding the body of toxins or achieving homeostasis [i.e., BALANCE].
So, here are some criteria I've established, as a registered dietitian for over 25
years:
- Therapeutic [Rx] cuisine contains moderate amounts of
sugars
Ratio: 15 grams of protein to 20 grams of carbohydrates to manage
glycemic load
- Rx cuisine avoids using refined fats, like poly-unsaturated oils exposed to high temperatures, loaded
with free radicals triggering low-grade inflammation
- Oils are "cold pressed",
"unrefined", and stored in a cool place, in dark bottles
since exposure
to light degrades oil, creating inflammation-forming free radicals.
- Rx cuisine with nuts/seeds are raw, not
roasted. Roasting destroys therapeutic properties.
RAW nuts and RAW seeds contain therapeutic essential oils.
Be
sure to store them in the refrigerator to retain their phyto-fat nutrient
density.
- Rx Cuisine avoids using carrageenan,
which, according to Andrew Weil, M.D.*,
an integrative medical pioneer,
"causes low-grade inflammation" in the body.
- Products containing
chocolate are NEVER treated with alkali [i.e., "Dutching"],
which is a process that destroys chocolate's
inherent therapeutic properties.
- Rx cuisine may contain fibers assisting in
balancing hormones naturally.
Plant Fibers also clean the digestive tract and manage
blood sugars and blood fats.
- Rx cuisine is "clean" ...that
means non-GMO & spared
exposure to herbicides, fungicides and pesticides which all acidify your
system. Some ingredients may not be officially organic but transitional in nature,
meaning the farmers have stopped using toxic chemicals and are transitioning
towards organic. This is good!
- *Dr. Andrew Weil, M.D. addressed the
Natural Products Expo West, in March of 2009. He reviewed his testimony to
Congress, which attacked today's medical disease-oriented system of care.
He
urged the orientation to be that of prevention, and managing low grade
inflammation, as priorities. He offered effective solutions:
- supplementing
with omega-3 fatty acids,
- vitamin D and...
- green algae!!!
While Vitamin D [1000 I.U./day] strengthens
immunity and improves bone health, omega-3's and algae are therapeutic ingredients managing moods and inflammation.
Algae is purely therapeutic. It
provides omega-3's plus pH balancing elements. It is
protein-rich, nutrient-dense and is a sea vegetable. IF YOU NEED A SOURCE, I provide the best possible price in the industry, delivered to your front door.

algae]
As you can see, to be
considered therapeutic, in my book,
the guidelines are stringent, yet many of
the products available in today's natural products marketplace have enormous
integrity.
