January 2009
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Resolution #1:
Eat Less Toxic Cuisine, More Therapeutic and Conscious
Cuisine.
[1/12/2009]
San Diego, California
- “Killers
in the Kitchen”
is one of the topics for discussion this Saturday at
University of California, San Diego
Medical Center
[1/17, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm]. Registered dietitian and health reporter Helene
Berk, M.Ed., R.D. is an expert at spotting
toxic cuisine
and
kitchen cookware
igniting inflammation, and generating poor health. She will discuss artificial
sweeteners, toxic oils and delicious alternatives. The upbeat health pro can
be seen prepping for last year’s talk on her website:
www.healthypeople.com
Berk was invited back to the 3rd
annual
UCSD
Healthy Heart Expo,
due to her popularity and standing-room only status of last year’s workshop.
In addition to
identifying toxic cuisine, Berk will highlight “conscious” and “therapeutic”
cuisine to help manage and even reverse lifestyle related diseases. “Diabetes,
metabolic syndrome, heart disease, high blood pressures and many cancers can be
managed with cuisine therapeutic in nature, consumed in the right dose”, says
Berk. The veteran medical nutrition therapist is spearheading her “CONSCIOUS
CUISINE CAMPAIGN”, an initiative to educate consumers, patients, and corporate
wellness advocates about the difference between toxic, conscious and therapeutic
cuisine.
“One metabolic
outcome
processed sugars,
bleached starches
and
refined
fats all have
in common, is they ignite the inflammatory process”, says Berk. Andrew Weil,
M.D., has made the case for low grade inflammation for decades, as the culprit
to every disease process known to mankind. In other words, manage inflammation
and you manage the disease. Progressive medical doctors, like Christine Northrup,
M.D. and Nicholas Perricone, M.D. are clearly proponents of this paradigm. “As a
culture, we are obsessed with weight loss and body image.”, says Berk. “We
consume toxic cuisine at an alarming rate, and ignore the signals our bodies
send. The signal is inflammation, and it means:
S.O.S.”
